A Mountain

Relatable, Raw, & Real

Matthew Snare was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina but moved to a farm in Floyd County, Virginia when he was five years old. His music is an eclectic and unique blend of folk, country, gospel, and rock n' roll. His poetic songwriting lyrically captures a journey up mountains and through valleys on this winding road of life. He has performed on various radio shows and television programs throughout his career and continues to perform on various stages.

Matthew grew up as one of six children in a genuine, close knit family. He loved to run free on the land and ride horses bareback. In high school he worked hard doing a variety of farm work and even raising his own cattle herd. His interest in guitar began at the young age of ten when a close family friend showed him a few chords. He eagerly learned the rest from music books which his parents would buy if he made the honor roll. When he was 12 years old, his hard work at school was rewarded with a Gibson electric guitar. Matthew wrote his first song when he was 13 about his dad driving a semitruck and wrote numerous songs thereafter. His passion for music led to him performing with various bands in Virginia.

In 2013, Matthew moved to Nashville to pursue his music career. While there, he performed on various radio shows, in TV acting roles, and in live performances around town. He also founded and directed Matthew Snare's Nashville Showcase Songwriter Night at Hotel Preston for five years. He eventually  returned to the mountains of Virginia to be with his family and continue working on his music there. He is also the dedicated father to his grown daughters, Alana and Maddy.  Matthew's passion for music has continued to grow throughout his life and can be heard in his moving lyrics and  instruments which vary from the unique hobo dobro, the guitar, guitjo, mandolin, and soulful harmonica.

In Matthew's welcoming farmhouse hangs an old tin sign that captures the essence of his songs. It reads, "Music is not to hear. It is to feel." We hope you will relax for a while and feel the music!
